Hyatt Regency Wujiaochang (五角场) Shanghai Hotel Review

In our recent trip to Shanghai, our family stayed at Hyatt Regency Wujiaochang throughout our stay and we enjoyed it. This is our review.

Location and Convenience

Located in a area known as Wujiaochang (五角场) or 5-sided market it is in a shopping district that has at least 5 malls within its vicinity which provides a lot of convenience of food choices and shopping.

The hotel is connected to the Hopson One Mall with a side door that allows you access to directly enter the mall from the hotel lift lobby.

From Hopson One, you can walk to all the other malls through a central area known as the “Sunken Plaza”.

You can find almost any major international brands and food within this small connected area.

This also leads you to the Line 10 Metro which provides you a direct route to the shopping District like “East Nanjing District” and “Long Yao” station. It also has a direct connection to popular tourist spots like “Yu garden”

If you’re heading to Shanghai Disneyland, you easily switch to the Line 11 at Jiaotong University and continue your journey down.

Ease of public transportation

The hotel is within walking distance to Line 10 of the metro. Line 10 is a pretty convenient line as it has connections to most of the tourist and shopping spots you want to get to.

Have not taken a bus during my stay here but both Didi and the Metro are really convenient.

Key metro stations for Line 10 include:

  • Hongqiao Railway Station
  • Hongqiao Airport Station
  • Shanghai Zoo
  • Tourist and shopping spots like:
    • Yuyuan Garden
    • Xintiandi
    • South Shanxi South
    • East Nanjing Road
    • Tiantong Road

The only drawback is that Wujiaochang is further up north so there’s about a 20 minutes travel time from most places. It would have been nice if it was nearer to the main city center.

Cleaniness

No complaints here, everything was well kept and neat. Housekeeping is done daily and they will arrange to change your bed linen every 2-3 days if you’re staying for a longer period of time.

They provide single-use toothpastes which was an interesting experience as it is packed in a single paper covering.

Staff Politeness

Reception and Housekeepers are generally very polite. If you are able to speak mandarin, communication will not be a problem. English communication is not a problem as well, but you would be able to tell they are more comfortable in speaking Mandarin.

Room Comfort

We took the 1 King Size room. Its extremely spacious and for the price, it provides one of the most value (in price-to-size) compared to other metropolitan cities like Tokyo and Seoul.

The room is 40 square metres large which provides ample legroom and walking around to comfortably place your luggage and still have enough room to move around.

There’s both a bathtub and a separate shower room which is great when you don’t want to shower over the bathtub.

The room is very well kept with a daily cleanup. During the check-in process, you’ll also be asked roughly what time do you prefer the housekeeper to clean up your room each day.

TV

  • Does not support Netflix or any Apps. Not a full-fledge Smart TV.
  • Casting is supported but only screen mirroring which doesn’t work on my device (Samsung S22)
  • Chromecast/Airplay is not supported.
  • Good mix of Chinese and International Channels. International Channels include:
    • CNN
    • CNBC
    • RT
    • NHK
    • Channel News Asia
    • AXN
    • Music Channel V

If you need your Netflix, it is advisable to bring your own chromecast / mini-android device to connect to the TV.

Specials

The hotel has a robot that helps bring small items to you directly without needing a housekeeper.

While I haven’t used this service, I’ve seen it take the lift to other hotel rooms.

From what I heard and read, these robots can also provide direct dispatch of your food delivery if you order takeouts without you having to head to the lobby to collect your items.

Anecdotally, I’ve seen hotel guests pick up their delivery food directly from the lobby, so I’m not sure if the hotel provides that service.

Ride-hailing (Didi) prices

These prices are based on my rides taken in late 2024. Prices may also be from Discount Express ride types.

Disneyland Resort

  • Estimated between 80 - 128 CNY (48 minutes) Pudong International Airport
  • Estimated between 99 - 160 CNY (~40 minutes) East Nanjing / The Bund / Yu Garden
  • Estimated to be around 40 CNY

Final Thoughts

Overall, Hyatt Regency Wujiaochang Shanghai is an excellent place to stay and would recommend it for first time Shanghai travellers.
